West Coast Swing Finals

I compete in West Coast Swing. The videos on this page are contest dances from events I have gone to, mostly finals, which is the last round of a division.

A Strictly is when you choose your partner but not the music. A Jack & Jill, or JnJ, is when you do not choose your partner. The draw pairs you with someone in your division for that round.

I have some writing about hitting phrase changes, which is pretty much the entire job of a lead in this dance. That lives in Hitting the Music in West Coast Swing and part two.

Summer Hummer 2026

Bekah Breaux and I danced this Advanced Jack & Jill final at Summer Hummer 2026.

Funnily enough, the day before that final, Bekah and I had danced a Strictly together. The judges gave us No, No, Alt 2, and Alt 2, so we did not make Strictly finals. I had a private lesson scheduled that evening, so I asked Bekah to follow me for the lesson, and we got some great feedback that was immediately actionable. The next day in the JnJ we each made finals on our own, and then we coincidentally drew each other for the JnJ and came in 4th place. Not bad for a couple that didn’t make strictly finals the day before.
